Young Leadership Network Camping Trip  (Everyone’s invited!)

June 26 -28, 2015

Join the Young Leadership Network (YLN) for a weekend of camping.  We will kick off our weekend celebration Friday night with a Kabbalat Shabbat and a kosher-style dairy pot luck when we arrive at the Silver Dollar Campground  (campsites 40, 41, 42 and 43) at Turquoise Lake. Everyone is invited to camp for any portion of the weekend.  Find more information about the Young Leadership events under the Young Leadership Network Section.

 Saturday, June 27, 2015

Weekend activities begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Shachrit service, followed by an oneg at Temple Israel (at the corner of 4th & Pine, 1 block west of Harrison Avenue).  Rabbi Sara Gilbert from Greeley’s Beth Israel Congregation will lead services.  Again this year, Alice Forshner will read from the torah.

During the early evening, we will serve a non-dairy pot luck dinner and dine with those who are hungry at St. George Episcopal Church at 5:00 p.m. (directly across the street from Temple Israel). Donations to B’nai B’rith Denver to help cover the food and clean up expenses would be greatly appreciated

Please bring canned goods to support the church’s ongoing meals program.

Young Leadership attendees will sponsor a vegetarian potluck dinner at the Silver Dollar campsite, followed by Havdalah.  Please bring a dish to share.  If your last name begins with:

  • A-F:  Bring a noodle or potato dish (kugel/casserole)
  • G-L:  Bring fruits/veggies
  • M-R:  Cheese/dairy dish or salad
  • S-Z:  Chips/salsa/guacamole or dessert

 Sunday, June 28, 2015

We will begin the annual clean up of the Leadville Hebrew Cemetery at 9:00 am.  Free breakfast will be available for early volunteers.  Our goal this year is the general clean up of the grounds, which will include cutting weeds, pruning tree branches, cemetery picket fence painting, and sprucing up soiled grave markers.

Starting in 1995, B’nai B’rith Denver has partnered with the Temple Israel Foundation to restore the cemetery after decades of neglect. The cemetery was reconsecrated in August 1999 and  is currently accepting new interments. Our partnership has remained and annual volunteer clean ups have been continued every summer.

A graveside memorial service honoring those early Jewish pioneers buried in the Leadville Hebrew Cemetery will be conducted at  11 am.  Each year the service is held around a different grave site that has been researched regarding the history of the deceased.  The brief service will be led by Rabbi Joel Newman of B’nai Vail Congregation.

Following the  memorial service, B’nai B’rith will provide a kosher lunch to thank all volunteers for their hard work and devotion to this annual mitzvah.

Clean up will continue throughout the day until approximately 4:00 pm.
